Lehrer Quasar™ Fern Green Quartz Round Faceted Gemstone

Developed by self-taught gem carver and visionary jewelry artist Glenn Lehrer, the Quasar™ cut further explores the possibilities of moving light within a gemstone. This special cut features a negative (inverted), faceted cone painstakingly carved into the back of the gemstone, similar to that of the TorusRing™ cut. In the Quasar cut, the table of the gemstone has a smooth, concave depression cut into the center. The negative space in the table creates a reflective effect on the light entering through the cone. The Quasar takes about five times longer to create than a traditional round gemstone. The result is well worth the time spent. As Glenn says, “I carve in light . . . bending light . . . turning each sparkling ray into an almost liquid medium.” The resulting look of the Quasar cut is reminiscent of the center of a radiant galaxy far away.
